How your support is preventing the spread of Coronavirus
Updated: Aug 18, 2020
These will be a tough few months and everyone at Dig Deep hopes that you and your family are safe and well.
We are living through deeply worrying times. As a charity that works to provide some of Kenya's most vulnerable people with vital hygiene knowledge, we know that the simple act of handwashing can save lives. Therefore we want to reiterate the advice of our government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) to minimise the risk of you and your loved ones catching and/or spreading the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Where we work 8 out of 10 people don't have the clean water and soap that they need to safely wash their hands. Changing this is more of a priority now than it has ever been before.
Your support is allowing us to respond to the COVID-19 virus in Kenya. In the last week, we have installed emergency handwashing facilities in critical areas where a lot of people gather such as at markets and we have promoted handwashing to over 7,000 people. Right now our local team led by Justus, Nelly and Nicholas are training Community Health Volunteers, in the rural areas we work in, to deliver the accurate and practical advice about staying safe from the virus. This work will leverage our existing relationships and expertise in training to impact 90 villages and reach 40,000 people in just the next two weeks.
As we are reminded in our own lives just how vital handwashing is to protect the well-being of the people that we love, our team are even more grateful for the support you have shown to Dig Deep. Without you we would not have been able to reach these communities. Thank you.
I would also like to ask that during these difficult times you consider supporting Dig Deep so we can continue to reach as many people as possible in Kenya. We cannot do this without you, so as you work to keep your family safe can I ask that if you do have any capacity to make a donation to Dig Deep, of any kind, that you please consider doing so.
These will be a tough few months, but we will get through them together. Again, I hope that you and your family stay safe and well, and let's all make sure we continue to prioritise regular handwashing.
