Fundraising with Taslima
Updated: Mar 7, 2023
Fellow fundraisers share the highs and lows of their journeys with raising money.
What made you want to sign up for the challenge of Kilimanjaro?
I have honestly always wanted to do a challenge like this; since first year I have always looked at all the challenges that I could do. And honestly, I was my biggest enemy and wouldn’t peruse it and go through with it- especially with all the costs, it scared me off. I think this time due to COVID and life being on a standstill, I wanted to do something completely different and out of my comfort zone. Finally, not chickening out of something I wanted to do for a while. Also, as I am finally on placement it felt more feasible.
Have you done anything like this before?
No! The closest thing to fundraising that I ever did was a local book sale when I was in Primary school with my mate and sister for Pakistan and Haiti. Other than that I have never really taken part in a challenge or fundraising like this before.
You've already raised an incredible amount of money, what have you been up to?
I just asked everyone, and I have been so taken aback with all the support that I have received. It has been amazing, and I cannot wait for what the next few months of fundraising have to offer!
Do you have any plans for future fundraising?
One plan that I have is trying to set up a giveaway with some local small businesses (as a few have expressed some interest)- I am hoping to launch this in February. What are you most looking forward to in the coming months?
Firstly, knowing that it is all done for such an amazing cause which I can personally empathise with since my parents are immigrants to the UK, and they come from fairly poor areas of India. Listening to their stories of struggle and hardship and knowing now that I can be a part of something to help reduce this for others will be super rewarding.
But also, proving to myself that I can do this and pushing myself to do something that I have never ever done before!
