300KM to Kili with Jake
Updated: Mar 7, 2023
What made you want to sign up for the challenge?
After catching the bug for fundraising in the last lockdown, during my NHS fundraiser, I was keen to take on a new challenge. Kat (my team leader) approached me and before I knew it I’d signed up to climb Kili!
Have you done anything like this before?
The closest I’ve done is with regard to the physical challenges in previous fundraising... where I ran 30 10kms in a month and 30 5kms in a month. As far as climbing a mountain, Portland hill on campus is the steepest climb (if you know you know).
You've already raised an incredible amount, how did you get started and do you have any plans for future fundraising?
As I previously alluded to, off the back of my fundraiser I used the momentum to raise funds to support my 300km in a month run challenge. I have a few plans in the pipeline. The most recent idea, which I will be promoting soon, will include a daily sea swim/dip over the course of a given time frame in the new year.
What advice would you give someone who is worried about fundraising or struggling to get started?
DO NOT WORRY! Just jump in at the deep end and see what happens. At the end of the day it’s all for charity and nobody can knock you for that!
What are you most looking forward/hope to gain from this challenge?
I am most looking forward to meeting and getting to know new people in what will be a tough and interesting challenge. I wanted to take a step out of my comfort zone and hopefully create more friendships which will last the test of time. For me I am more concerned about the mental test, rather than the physical aspect of the challenge, it will be very tough... as anybody who knows me well is aware I hate not being clean!!!
Thank-you for talking to us Jake , we can't wait to see you in Tanzania in August!
